Rolling Workbench

Feb 18, 2001

dsc_003.jpg (82379 bytes)dsc_001.jpg (80338 bytes)This is a bench that I am building for myself.  I wanted one that gave me plenty of area to work on, yet didn't waste any space.  The top is going to be 7'6" long and 3'6" wide.  I am going to install a vice on one end and bench dogs down the table from there.  One side is going to be all drawers and the other side will have doors with adjustable shelves.  I am going to install casters under it so I can move it around if I have to.

workbench1.jpg (82128 bytes)workbench2.jpg (97082 bytes)After getting home from a summer in Saudi Arabia I was finally able to finish the bench.  There are 14 drawers on one side with full extension slides and a series of shelves on the opposite side.  With nothing in the bench, I can barely lift one side, so I really appreciate the wheels.  I have electrical outlets on the ends of the bench to give me easy access to electricity.

Parent's Entertainment center

Dec 13, 2001

entertainment center_1.jpg (72898 bytes)Here are the pieces to a entertainment center I am building for my parents.  They are going to sit a 36" TV on it and some components in the cabinet.  The lumber came from the ranch back at home.  We cut down the trees in the south pasture and cut them into lumber with the sawmill.

entertainment center_2.jpg (78644 bytes)This is the progress I have made in the last two days.  All that I have left is to sand it and attach the bottom trim and the top.  After that build one shelf and install the glass doors.

entertainment center_3.jpg (85801 bytes)Here is where I am now.  I have the glass doors to install and the stain and poly to apply.  I am going to be taking it to my parent's house at Christmas time and finishing it there.

Cedar Chest

Feb 6, 2002

cedar chest 1.jpg (87090 bytes)I am in the process of building a cedar chest for myself.  The lumber sitting on the bench is the start.  It is also made out of lumber that came off the ranch.

cedar chest 2.jpg (77688 bytes)Progress was painfully slow for this project.  I am done to the point of staining and varnishing the chest, but am going to wait for to do two projects at once.  The cabinet carcass is made out of oak, with a cedar lining inside.

VHS-DVD Cabinet.jpg (93465 bytes)The plywood on the bench is the start to a cabinet to store DVDs and VHS tapes in.  This cabinet will be 6 1/2 feet tall and 3 feet wide and 1 foot deep and hold 464 VHS tapes, or up to 544 DVDs and 252 VHS tapes.
